Wine Drinkers Overpour, Study Says

BY InVine Social

This is one conclusion we might have suspected before, but now we’re sure! According to a study published on Substance Use and Misuse there are some hidden effects related to the type of glass you use to drink wine, and also whether you’re drinking red or white.

This USA TODAY article shows a quick summary of the study, including these interesting findings:

The study, published in Substance Use and Misuse, found that participants poured 12% more wine into a wide glass than a narrow one. They also poured 12% more wine into a glass they were holding, compared to one placed on a table.

Color contrast affected pours, too. Participants overpoured white wine into a clear glass by 10%. Less overpouring occurred when the wine was red.

We’re currently “secretly working” on a technology that will change the way consumers think about wine by the glass, or wine generally. It’s going to take a while before this technology is ready but we have high hopes for it! We’ll keep you posted on this, meanwhile, it looks like the proper wine glass affects consumption, so make sure to refresh your inventory if you have to.
